Computerized Sewing Machines
Today's home sewing machines have built-in computers like the Brother SE-400 or the Brother HS-2000. Computerized sewing machines feature small monitor displays for easier operation. A computer is used to control several different motors, giving you the ability to precisely move the needle bar, the tensioning discs, the feed dog, and other sewing machine parts. The computer controls all these little mechanisms so that it is possible to produce hundreds of various stitches. With the motor, the computer is able to control the right speed in order to move the needle bar up and down or from side to side in the particular stitch pattern you need. The programs for computerized sewing machines store all your different stitches and they even allow you to download patterns from the Internet.
Besides sewing, some computerized machines can also act as computer embroidery machines, creating complex patterns on fabrics. These embroidering sewing machines feature a work area that holds the fabric in place underneath the needle assembly. They also have a series of sensors that tell the computer how all of the machine components are positioned. By precisely moving the work area forward and backward or side to side while adjusting the needle assembly to vary the stitching style, the computerized embroidery sewing machine can produce an infinite number of elaborate shapes and lines. The sewer simply loads a pattern from the machines memory or creates an original one and the computer does almost everything else. The computer prompts the sewer to replace the thread or make any other adjustments when necessary.
